埼玉県の熊谷市は、夏にとても暑くなる町です。

Kumagaya City in Saitama Prefecture is a town that gets very hot in summer.

去年の夏も、毎日のように気温が高くなりました。

Last summer too, the temperature rose high almost every day.

暑い日が続くと、熱中症になる人が増えます。

When hot days continue, the number of people who get heatstroke increases.

熊谷市は、子どもたちを熱中症から守りたいと考えました。

Kumagaya City wanted to protect children from heatstroke.

そこで、市の小学生みんなに日傘を渡しました。

So it handed out parasols to all the elementary school students in the city.

日傘をさすと、頭や顔に日が当たりにくくなります。

When you put up a parasol, the sun is less likely to hit your head and face.

それで、体の温度が上がりにくくなります。

As a result, your body temperature is less likely to rise.

学校の先生は、「子どもたちが元気に学校へ来てほしい」と話しました。

A school teacher said, "I hope the children come to school full of energy."
