Fukuoka Prefecture: a contest was held to make tea by hand-rolling

1年で最初にとれるお茶はとてもいい匂いです。

The first tea harvested in the year has a wonderful aroma.

福岡県の八女市で、15日、お茶を作る大会がありました。

On the 15th, a tea-making contest was held in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture.

お茶は、今はほとんど機械で作ります。

These days, tea is mostly made by machine.

大会は、昔からある、手でこすって揉む技術を守るために開いています。

The contest is held to preserve the traditional technique of rubbing and rolling the leaves by hand.

3人のチームで参加します。

Participants take part in teams of three.

とったばかりのお茶の葉を熱い台の上に広げて揉みます。

They spread the freshly picked tea leaves on a hot table and roll them.

参加した人は「力の入れ方などが難しいです。

One participant said, "Things like how much force to use are difficult."

おいしいお茶ができるように頑張ります」と言っていました。

福岡県ふくおかけんの八女市やめしで、15日にち、お茶ちゃを作つくる大会たいかいがありました3。お茶ちゃは、今いまはほとんど機械きかいで作つくります4。大会たいかいは、昔むかしからある、手てでこすって揉もむ技術ぎじゅつを守まもるために開ひらいています5。3人にんのチームで参加さんかします6。とったばかりのお茶ちゃの葉はを熱あつい台だいの上うえに広ひろげて揉もみます7。

参加さんかした人ひとは「力ちからの入いれ方かたなどが難むずかしいです8。おいしいお茶ちゃができるように頑張がんばります」と言いっていました9。
